(to be released on 5th November) 'Always the Last to Know,' was composed in 1993 for piano and violin playing the same line of music. This version is for solo piano and has a new bass line. 'Beeline for Massimo Mancini,' was composed in the summer of 2026 for piano and organ drone. Massimo Mancini is a friend & beekeeper. 'Seventeen Notes for Neil Turok,' was composed in September 2026 for solo piano. Neil Turok is a theoretical physicist who tries to understand the universe from the simplest explanation. The “Standard Model” of particle physics contains 17 known fundamental elementary particles. My piece uses 17 notes. The first time they are played in ascending order, and then there are 15 variations with the order of the notes chosen randomly. The 17th and final time, they are played in descending order. Each of the 17 notes are played 17 times. 'The Overton Window,' was composed in September 2026 for solo piano and (very unusually for me) uses a subtle range of dynamics. 'Brushstrokes,' was composed in October 2026 for piano three hands. 'Rothko Skies,' was composed in October 2026 for solo piano and is very quiet and meditative.
