‘A Hill Climb’ was composed on 28th January 1989 (rather unusual for me as it constantly changes tempo) & ‘A Close Finish’ on 29th January 1989. Both pieces are from the set ‘Motors, The Golden Picture Book’ (with amended titles) for solo piano and first performed by Helen Ottaway. ‘Shadow Line’ was composed in February 2026 for solo piano, with a light and bright right hand and a more sombre left hand. ‘An Idea of Walking (In Octaves) for Twenty Minutes’ was composed in February 2026 for solo piano. All the music is written in octaves, and the idea was to have a piece in a constant tempo to walk to. ‘Reflections on Water’ was composed on March 4th 2026, for solo piano. Each bar is repeated at twice the speed, so a bar of three four becomes a bar of three eight etc. ‘Just Around the Corner’ was composed on March 5th 2026, for solo piano. ‘No Ifs or Buts’ and ‘No Where No Why No When’ were composed in March 2026 for piano three hands.
