NOTES
'Lucifer's Song' (a passacaglia in memory of Denys Irving), was composed in 2012 for piano (three hands) and is dedicated to the musician and filmmaker Denys Irving (1944 - 1976). Denys Irving was the man behind the elusive early 70's rock group 'Lucifer' who released two albums, 'Big Gun' and 'Exit' and four singles. The 'Exit' LP is the soundtrack from the recently rediscovered film 'Exit', (written, directed and produced by Denys Irving and Naomi Zack in 1971).
A passacaglia is a musical form (similar to a chaconne) usually associated with rather solemn music. It consists of a repeated bass line (ground bass) above which the music constantly changes. One of the most famous examples of a passacaglia is the sublime "When I am Laid in Earth", (Dido's Lament) from the opera 'Dido and Aeneas', by Henry Purcell.
