Released 2017
Music for piano from 1993 to 2017, including a circular composition for two pianos.
'Angles for Angels', was composed in 2017 and is dedicated to the author Brian R. Banks who has recently produced an excellent book on Joris-Karl Huysmans and who writes a great deal on 1970s British rock music.
'With or Without', was composed in 1995 and is intended to be performed with or without a violin.
'Free Will' was composed in 2017 for the pianist and linguist Alessandria Di Nardo. The piece gives a great deal of freedom to the performer. There are five pages of music which can be played in any order and in this recording the pages are played in the sequence 3, 2, 5, 1, 4.
'A Lovely Day for San Zanobi' was composed in 2017. San Zanobi was an early bishop of Florence, and is the patron saint of Scandicci.
'For Dr. Caterina Miniati' was composed in 2017 and is dedicated to my wife's childhood friend.
'August 1993' was composed in 1993 and was written shortly after meeting my future wife Paola Paoletti.
'Circular Music' was composed in 2017 for two pianos, but it uses material from a piece called 'Circle' I wrote in 1995 for a group of singers. It is a strict canon with the second piano playing the same material 32 beats behind the first. When the end is reached it can either stop there, or, (as in this recording) return to the beginning and finish anywhere, giving a circular option. It was quite complicated to write as the music frequently changes time signature and the number of repeats isn't regular, so to write a score with both parts was impossible.
'Sunch Agoo' was composed in 2000, and if the title meant something at the time I've completely forgotten what it was! The piece has an element of freedom at the end, with an unspecified repeat.
