‘Blank Verse’ is a three part spoken word and electric organ album written and recorded in 2002.
The text of ‘Blank Verse’ was written in 2002 at a time when I was producing quite a lot of text based work. Each section contains a thousand words and ends with the words ‘I love you’. My idea was to choose words randomly and create a meaningless text, but of course when words are placed adjacent to one another some meaning slips through. The other idea was to use words without repeating them, and in this failure was almost guaranteed as I didn’t allow myself to reread what I’d already written, so I had to rely on my memory as to whether a word had already been used. The last sentence is in inverted commas as it was something I said out loud as I was dreaming, probably it meant something to me in the dream, but like the rest of the text the meaning is lost. The music, for solo electric organ was composed specially to go with the text. Parts 1 & 2 are written, and Part 3 is an improvisation. Many thanks to John Miller, for his valuable assistance in the recording process.
